Now I in Semester 2, Year 1. In semester 2, we compulsory to take Microbiology II. So, Prof Dr Sieo Chin Chin teach us about immunology and classification system.
For the classification system, we had to do mind map. So, my mind map on classification system is:
After Dr Sieo checked our mind maps, Dr Sieo noticed that we make mistake. Dr Sieo says, "techniques for identification, just like techniques for classification, can also be divided to classical and molecular techiniques".
From my understanding, there are 3 types of classification system which are phenetic, phylogenetic and genotypic. The bacteria or microorganisms that grouped based on mutual similarity of phenotypic characteristic can be classified under phenetic classification. Phylogenetic classify based on specific gene likes 16 S rRNA or 18 S rRNA. All prokaryote have gene 16S rRNA except for fungi. So, only Fungi have gene 18 S rRNA. Then, for genotypic classification compare the genetic similarities between organisms.
So, all the classification can be determined by doing technique or method. There are two types of method which are classical and molecular method.
After this chapter, we move to the Introduction to Immunology. There are 3 main lines of body defense system which are external physical barriers (skin, mucous membrane, normal microbiota), internal barriers (phagocytic cells,inflammation and fever) and specific immune response (humoral and acquired immunity).
